Glenrowan-Myrtleford Road (Snow Road) and Hume Freeway safety improvements

We’re improving safety at the intersection of Glenrowan-Myrtleford Road (Snow Road) and the Hume Freeway off-ramp with the installation of electronic vehicle activated warning signs at Glenrowan.

Project status:

Underway

We’re improving safety at the intersection of Glenrowan-Myrtleford Road (Snow Road) and the Hume Freeway off-ramp with the installation of electronic vehicle-activated warning signs.

This project is being delivered as part of the Australian Government Black Spot Program.

The signs are activated by vehicles exiting the Hume Freeway on approach to the intersection with Glenrowan-Myrtleford Road (Snow Road). The signs alert motorists that they are approaching a major intersection with flashing lights and a ‘Prepare to Stop’ message.

Other works include changing from a ‘Give Way’ to ‘Stop’ intersection and improved linemarking for better visibility.

Traffic impacts during construction

Our crews will be on-site on the Glenrowan-Myrtleford Road (Snow Road) and Hume Freeway off-ramp from mid-October 2026. Works are expected to take approximately 3 weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Works include:

  • installation of two vehicle-activated signs on the Hume Freeway off-ramp approach to the intersection
  • installation of ‘Stop’ signs, changed from ‘Give Way’ signs
  • improved linemarking.

During works reduced speed limits will be in place on the Hume Freeway on approach to the off-ramp, the off-ramp itself and on Glenrowan-Myrtleford Road.

Plan for changed traffic conditions and allow extra time when traveling through the area.
