Upcoming works

Works on the southbound lanes  

From Monday 28 September 2026 we’ll start shifting barriers to set up new work zones. The following traffic changes will then be in place until mid-November:

• South Gippsland Highway will be open with one lane of traffic in each direction on the northbound lanes (see map 1)
• Clyde-Five Ways Road will partially re-open with left-out only at South Gippsland Highway, keeping the existing detour in place via Berwick-Cranbourne Road (see map 1a)
• Fisheries Road and Finsbury Road will reopen with left-in and left-out only access to South Gippsland Highway
• Access between Manks Road and South Gippsland Highway will become left-in and left-out only
• Access between Browns Road and South Gippsland Highway will become left-in and left-out only
• The current temporary bus stop closures and detours for routes 796, 795, and V/Line Coaches will remain in place.

These changes will allow us to fully rebuild the asphalt on the southbound lanes of South Gippsland Highway as well as build the new traffic signals and streetlights near Clyde-Five Ways Road.

Drivers will be able to U-turn at Facey Road to head southbound (see map 2) or at the U-turn bay on South Gippsland Highway south of Manks Road (see map 3) to head northbound.

During these works, access to 7-Eleven Five Ways will be available via Clyde-Five Ways Road only. Access to the Five Ways General Store will be available from South Gippsland Highway via Fisheries Road and Finsbury Road.

Works on the northbound lanes  

• Once we complete asphalting works on the southbound lanes of South Gippsland Highway, we’ll shift traffic to begin works on the remaining lanes. From mid-November until end December, the following traffic changes will be in place:
• South Gippsland Highway will be open with one lane of traffic in each direction on the southbound lanes (see map 5)
• Clyde Five-Ways Road will reopen, except for the right turn from Clyde-Five Ways Road into South Gippsland Highway
• Fisheries Road and Finsbury Road will be fully closed at South Gippsland Highway, with detours in place via North Road, Browns Road, and Cross Road (see maps 4 and 5a)  
• Access between Manks Road and South Gippsland Highway will remain left-in and left-out only
• Access between Browns Road and South Gippsland Highway will remain left-in and left-out only
• Access to 7-Eleven Five Ways will be available via both South Gippsland Highway and Clyde-Five Ways Road
• Access to the Five Ways General Store will be available from South Gippsland Highway via turning left into Browns Road and using the South Gippsland Highway service road
• The temporary bus stop closures and detours for routes 796, 795, and V/Line Coaches will remain in place.
• U-turn opportunities will remain in place at Facey Road, to head southbound (see map 2) or at the U-turn bay on South Gippsland Highway south of Manks Road (see map 3) to head northbound.

These traffic changes will allow us to fully rebuild the asphalt on the northbound lanes of South Gippsland Highway as well as build the new traffic signals and streetlights near Fisheries Road.  

What to expect during works

We’ll mostly work Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm and on some Saturdays until 1pm. At times, we may need to work overnight from 8pm to 5am. If we do, we’ll let you know ahead of time.  

Our works are weather-dependent. If we need to reschedule, we’ll update you via on-road signage.

There will be temporary speed reductions and changed traffic conditions. We recommend allowing an extra 15 minutes for your journey. Please visit bigbuild.vic.gov.au or refer to roadside messaging for the most up-to-date information.
