Poplar Road sewer upgrade

What we’re doing

We’re upgrading the public sewer network on Poplar Road at the intersection of Oak Street by installing new underground infrastructure. These essential works will help support future growth in the area.

Poplar Road will be closed at the intersection of Oak Street for approximately four weeks while crews work on site.

What to expect during works 

• From Monday 12 October to mid-November 2026, crews will be working every day between 7am and 7pm.
• To help keep crews and community safe during works, Poplar Road will be closed at the intersection of Oak Street during the day and night until works are completed.
• A detour will be in place via Park Street, Royale Parade, Elliot Avenue, Flemington Road and Church Street.
• A free maxi-taxi service will replace Route 505 buses on Poplar Road between the Royal Melbourne Hospital Royal Park and Princes Park bus stops.
• Temporary street parking restrictions and footpath closures where crews are working on Poplar Road and Oak Street.
• Short periods of medium to high levels of noise.
• Access to properties will be kept open at all times.

Please note all dates and times are subject to change. We’ll keep community informed during works. 

Route 505 shuttle service on Poplar Road 

A free maxi-taxi service will run approximately every 15 minutes along Poplar Road between the Royal Melbourne Hospital Royal Park and Princes Park bus stops until works are completed.

The Route 505 bus will still travel along Royal Parade and Garrad Street, but it will detour via Park Street to bypass Poplar Road.
