Vincent Street and Barkly Street, Ararat, intersection upgrade
We’re improving safety and installing fully-controlled right turn signals in the Grampians region.
Fully-controlled right turn signals will be installed at the intersection of Vincent Street and Barkly Street, Ararat. The upgrade will increase safety for all road users, ease congestion and improve traffic flow at this busy intersection.
The Vincent and Barkly Street intersection upgrade in Ararat will be completed in 2026, with project timelines to be finalised.
An update on specific work hours and disruptions will be communicated when the construction program is finalised.
Traffic management will be installed on site to complete this important upgrade. Lane closures, road closures and detours may be required to protect the safety of crews and road users. Road users are encouraged to plan their journey to minimise disruptions.
Background
Barkly Street, the extension of Ararat-Halls Gap Road, supports freight travelling through Western Victoria and is used by 2,600 vehicles daily. Vincent Street is the extension of the Pyrenees Highway, a significant route connecting north-west Victoria, and carries 2,000 vehicles a day. The busy intersection in central Ararat has high pedestrian traffic due to nearby services and amenities.
Transport Victoria is delivering this upgrade as part of the Australian and Victorian Government’s Road Safety Program to improve safety for all roads users.
