Queen Street and Victoria Street, Ballarat, intersection upgrade

Fully-controlled right turn signals will be installed at the intersection of Queen Street and Victoria Street, Ballarat. The upgrade will increase safety for all road users, ease congestion and improve traffic flow at this busy intersection.

Construction started in late August and civil works have been completed.

Crews are scheduled to return in early October to complete signalisation works. These works will take up to one week, weather permitting.

To minimise impacts to businesses, residents and the wider community, we’ll be working at night, between 8pm and 5am, Sunday to Thursday. There is a possibility of weekend works, as required.

Single lane closures, delays of up to five minutes and a reduced speed limit will be in place during construction to protect the safety of crews and road users. Road users are encouraged to plan their journey to minimise disruptions.

Please note: dates and time frames of these works are dependent on a range of factors, including favourable weather and site conditions.

Background

Victoria Street is the extension of Ballarat-Burrumbeet Road – a Ballarat exit from the Western Freeway westbound and a major road bringing traffic into Ballarat central. Up to 8,400 vehicles travel this road every day. Queen Street is a local, residential road which runs north of Humffray Street North to Eureka Street.

Transport Victoria is delivering this upgrade as part of the Australian and Victorian Government’s Road Safety Program to improve safety for all roads users.
