School Crossing Safety Upgrade – Pyrenees Highway, Ararat
We’re upgrading the school crossing on Pyrenees Highway (Campbell Street) to improve pedestrian safety and active transport connections in Ararat.
Underway
We’re upgrading the school crossing on the Pyrenees Highway (Campbell Street), between Blake and Murphy Streets, to improve safety and active transport connections in Ararat.
Works are planned to start in November and take up to three weeks to complete, weather permitting.
Construction impacts
The school crossing safety upgrades will include new kerb extensions, school crossing posts with flags and line marking, with improved footpath connections and pram crossings.
Crews will be on site from Monday to Friday, between 7am and 6pm, with the possibility of weekend works.
A temporary crossing point will be used while the school crossing upgrade is underway. Please follow direction of traffic management personnel and school crossing supervisors during this time.
Traffic management, including single lane closures, delays of up to five minutes and a reduced speed limit, will be in place during construction to protect the safety of crews and road users.
Please note: dates and timeframes of these works are dependent on a range of factors, including favourable weather and site conditions.
Benefits
The new safer crossing will reduce the likelihood and severity of crashes, address identified near-miss and fatal-risk conditions, and provide safe and accessible crossing facilities for schoolchildren, parents, residents and cyclists.
The project will benefit the students, staff and communities of Ararat North Primary School and Ararat North Kindergarten.
Background
Transport Victoria is delivering these school crossing upgrades as part of the Australian Government’s Road Safety Program.
