Main Road and Barkly Street, Ballarat, intersection upgrade

We've installed fully-controlled right turn signals at the intersection of Main Road and Barkly Street, Ballarat. The upgrade will increase safety for all road users, ease congestion and improve traffic flow at this busy intersection.

Fully-controlled right turn arrow lights have been installed on the north-west, south-west and north-east approaches. We’ve also updated signage and line marking throughout the intersection.

Works to upgrade this intersection were completed in October 2026.

Background

Main Road is a major arterial road, travelled by 6,800 vehicles a day, connecting Buninyong and the Midland Highway to Ballarat central. Main Road intersects with Barkly Street in a multi-use area with services, amenities, public transport and green spaces.

Transport Victoria delivered this upgrade under the jointly funded Road Safety Program to improve safety for all roads users.
