Leongatha Alternate Truck Route - Stage 2
Planned
Overview
We’re planning for future improvements to make it safer and easier to travel through Leongatha.
Planning work will investigate options to improve:
- how traffic moves through the intersection of South Gippsland, Bass and Strzelecki highways and connecting roads
- pedestrian safety and access to the Great Southern Rail Trail at the Strzelecki Highway.
What’s next
Planning is underway and key activities include:
- developing and assessing project options
- traffic analysis and modelling, to understand current movements, future growth and demand on the road network
- environmental investigations to understand flora, fauna and tree species.
To help inform planning, a range of site investigations may be undertaken. At times, traffic control measures including temporary lane closures, stop/slow traffic and reduced speeds may be in place.
Traffic disruption will be kept to a minimum, and busy periods will be avoided, where possible.
Initial planning is expected to be complete in late 2028. The project is not currently funded for construction, and this planning will help inform future government funding decisions.
Further information and next steps will be provided as planning progresses.
