Lara Six Ways intersection upgrade
The intersection of Station Lake Road, Patullos Road, and Forest Road (Lara Six Ways) is being upgraded to improve safety and reduce travel times.

Major works
From the night of Monday 19 October 2026, we'll place temporary safety barriers around the work areas at the Lara Six Ways intersection. We'll then begin work at the intersection of Kees Road and Patullos Road from Tuesday 20 October 2026.
Work at Station Lake Road will continue with speed reduction zones and traffic management in place to maintain traffic flow.
Works at these locations will continue until early December 2026 and include:
- pavement widening
- drainage upgrades
- temporary pavement works
- a new bus stop on the north side of Station Lake Road
- service road entries and exits to support staged construction
Traffic impacts
To complete this work safely, we'll close different sides of the intersection at times.
Intersection closure
From 8pm Monday 19 October to 6am Tuesday 20 October 2026, the Lara Six Ways intersection will be closed as we place safety road barriers around the work areas.
A detour will be in place via Windermere Road, Curtletts Road, Turner Avenue, Station Lake Road, Peak Street, Bank Street, Forest Road South, Buckingham Street, Bath Street, Benjamin Drive, Mark Street and Kees Road.
Lara Six Ways intersection closure from 8pm Monday 19 October to 6am Tuesday 20 October 2026
Kees Road closure
From Tuesday 20 October until early December 2026, Kees Road will be closed at times in both directions at the intersection of Patullos Road.
A detour will be in place via Benjamin Drive.
During this time, access to the car park north of the intersection between Kees Road and Forest Road North will be reduced, with the car park closed at times. The pedestrian crossing from this car park to the shops will also close. Please see on-street signage for alternative access.
Delays of up to 5 minutes are expected.

How this may impact you
Working hours
Crews will work Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm and on some Saturdays until 1pm. There will be times we will work at night from 7pm to 6am.
While we work, there will be temporary changes to the way people move around the intersection and local area to maintain the safety of the community and our workers. You will notice traffic management, speed reductions, road closures and lane closures in place at times. Please follow signage and the directions of our traffic controllers.
Residents and businesses close to the intersection may notice some construction noise, and at night, lighting from our temporary work lights. We'll monitor these impacts and direct lighting away from properties where possible, to keep disruption to a minimum.
Access to properties and businesses will be maintained at all times.

Bus stop closures
As part of these works, there will be temporary closures of some bus stops near the intersection. Further information will be displayed at impacted bus stops ahead of time. Help plan your journey here.
What we're doing
We're upgrading the intersection of Station Lake Road, Patullos Road, Forest Road North and Forest Road South, known as Lara Six Ways, on behalf of Transport Victoria.
The Lara Six Ways Intersection Upgrade will:
- replace the existing single lane roundabout with traffic lights
- add new signalised pedestrian crossings at the intersection and pedestrian crossings on Flinders Avenue and Kees Road
- remove the right turn from Kees Road onto Patullos Road
- remove the right turn from Flinders Avenue onto Station Lake Road and Station Lake Road onto Flinders Avenue
- add additional lanes at the intersection
- relocate the Pioneers’ Memorial Cairn and the public toilet block.
Benefits
- Provides safe crossing opportunities between business, community facilities, schools, and residential areas.
- Reduced congestion through central Lara improving travel time reliability to key facilities, including the Lara Train Station.
Construction timelines
- September 2026 – start of works
- Mid-2027 – project completion
Access changes
To add new lanes at the intersection the ability for vehicles to turn right across multiple traffic lanes needs to be restricted.
These changes will improve safety for road users, lower the risk and severity of crashes and improve traffic flow by preventing drivers from attempting risky and uncontrolled movements.
Station Lake Road and Flinders Avenue
To add new lanes at the intersection along Station Lake Road, the ability for vehicles to turn right from Station Lake Road onto Flinders Avenue and to turn right out from Flinders Avenue onto Station Lake Road needs to be restricted.
Motorists will still be able to:
- turn left from Station Lake Road onto Flinders Avenue
- turn left from Flinders Avenue onto Station Lake Road.
To access Flinders Avenue when travelling westbound on Station Lake Road, motorists will need to do a U-turn at the new traffic lights.
To access Station Lake Road westbound from Flinders Avenue, turn left onto Station Lake Road Service Road and then turn right onto Station Lake Road from an existing access point.
Patullos Road and Kees Road
To add new lanes at the intersection along Patullos Road, the ability for vehicles to turn right across multiple traffic lanes from Kees Road onto Patullos Road needs to be restricted.
Motorists will still be able to:
- turn left from Kees Road onto Patullos Road
- turn left from Patullos Road into Kees Road
- turn right from Patullos Road into Kees Road.
To access Patullos Road westbound from Kees Road, motorists will need to make a U-turn at the new traffic lights or drive west along Patullos Service Road and turn right onto Patullos Road from Benjamin Drive.
