Youth myki competition
Meet some of our talented myki-angelos!
02/09/2025
In June, we invited Victoria’s young creatives to design the very first Youth myki card to celebrate free travel for under 18s from 1 January 2026.
We received thousands of colourful, creative and inspiring entries from young artists right across the state. From bold colours to fresh ideas, each design reflected the diversity and vibrancy of the young people who made them.
We’re excited to share a selection of standout finalists whose work captures the spirit of free travel and the joy of exploring Victoria by train, tram and bus.

Licheng Yang
Age: 15

Description: With this artwork I tried to capture a moment of shared wonder from the perspective of young people on public transport. Through the window, the world becomes a vibrant dream filled with imagination and possibility.
As a child, many of us would let our minds run free while staring out the window: turning clouds into castles and streets into stories. It reflects how youth see beauty in the everyday and how public spaces like trains and trams are part of our friendships, creativity and growth.
Each character is unique, representing Melbourne’s diversity. The purple cat is a playful detail, reminding us that curiosity and joy often travel with us. This design invites people to look out and see the city not just as it is, but as it could be: full of colour, community and connection.
Rose Yutong Huang
Age: 16

Description: I was inspired by the different reasons people use PTV and where they go — to the aquarium, the city and the zoo. I wanted to capture my favourite parts of travelling, for example going home and admiring the sunset after a long day.
I also wanted to express the idea that everyone has a different story and reason to travel through the different scenery in each window, yet, they travel on the same train in the same direction.
Mia Sardellis
Age: 16

Description: My artwork is in my style of 'doodle art' which is a composition of a bunch of little things. In this piece, I was inspired by Australia, through different elements which can be seen in the animal choices and different icons.
Not only this but I incorporated ideas of 'youth' through the actual word as well different activities like the arts and sports. Finally, the piece was bought to life through the use of bright colours ultimately highlighting the joys and freedoms that youth brings.
