The newest entrance to Town Hall Station has opened ahead of the Metro Tunnel’s Big Switch on Sunday – the biggest transformation of Melbourne’s rail network in more than 40 years.

New entrance gives passengers more choice

The station’s Swanston Street entrance (near Young and Jackson Hotel) gives passengers more options to get to the state-of-the-art new station in the heart of the city. People can also access the new entrance from Cocker and Scott alleys, off Flinders Lane.

The station is expected to be one of the busiest of the Metro Tunnel’s five new underground stations, giving people access to some of Melbourne’s most popular destinations and landmarks including Federation Square, Birrarung Marr, Southbank, St Paul’s Cathedral and Melbourne Town Hall.

Seamless connections

Town Hall Station has a direct link to Flinders Street Station for seamless connections between Metro Tunnel and City Loop services, and easy access to popular tram routes along Swanston, Collins and Flinders streets.

The Metro Tunnel has doubled the size of Melbourne’s underground rail network, opening up new destinations and allowing passengers to cross the city from Arden Station in North Melbourne to Anzac Station on St Kilda Road in just 12 minutes.
