New Motorcycle Safety Action Plan released
A new Plan has been released to improve rider safety and reduce motorcycle road trauma across Victoria.
Motorcyclists are over-represented in road trauma and comprise a growing number of lives lost on Victorian roads.
The Motorcycle Safety Action Plan sets the strategic direction for Victoria’s Road Safety Partners to help make riders safer across Victoria.
Key actions include:
- Delivering a $40 million Motorcycle Safety Infrastructure Program for motorcycle friendly safety treatments at high-risk sites across Victoria.
- Exploring options for a new urban corridor safety trial to reduce road-related hazards for riders in urban environments.
- Supporting novice riders by evaluating the Motorcycle Graduated Licensing Scheme.
- Updating the existing Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme policy to restrict novice motorcyclists from riding high-powered electric motorcycles, and
- Encouraging more people to wear personal protective gear.
The Plan forms part of the ongoing commitment to saving lives under Victoria’s 10-year Road Safety Strategy 2021-2030.
Over 100 stakeholders across government, councils, rider groups, training providers, motorcycle manufacturers, and retailers helped to shape the Plan.
