Help shape the Better Freight Outcomes Fund community grants program
The Department of Transport and Planning is developing a grants program to support communities affected by heavy vehicle activity in Melbourne’s inner west.
The program will be funded through the Better Freight Outcomes Fund which was established in legislation in 2019, to direct proceeds from fines and penalties issued to heavy vehicle operators that breach no-truck zone regulations to fund community projects. The grants program will open in 2027, with an estimated $1 million available to support small to medium-sized community-led projects, improving the environment and amenity of local neighbourhoods in the inner west.
Local communities are invited to contribute to the fund’s design via a survey on Engage Victoria.
The survey will help us understand:
- community priorities and concerns
- the types of projects that will deliver the greatest benefits to local communities
- how funding should be prioritised.
Your input will help shape the fund – including grant guidelines and key assessment criteria.
To contribute to the Better Freight Outcomes Fund survey, visit the Engage Victoria webpage. The survey is open from Monday 12 October to 11:59pm Sunday 1 November 2026.
