A new automated permit system for trucks will cut costs for industry thanks to new digital technology.

The new Heavy Vehicle Structural Assessment Permit System (HVSAPS) automates up to 85 per cent of structural assessments for Class 1 and Performance-Based Standards vehicles – reducing the need for manual bridge and culvert assessments.

The technology will cut freight operators approval times from up to six months down to just days, reducing costs by up to $20,000.

Removing these fees for all heavy vehicle combinations, except superloads, will benefit freight vehicles that faced longer assessment times due to size variations.

The Victorian Freight Plan 2025-30: Victoria Delivers focuses on modernising processes like HVSAPS and using smart technologies for heavy vehicle management.

Transport operators can use HVSAPS for Victorian state roads through the NHVR Go portal, with support rom the NHVR.

This new system is part of the Business Acceleration Fund, highlights the important role of freight and logistics, contributing $36 billion to our economy and employing over 240,000 Victorians.
