Cruise Ship Visits to Melbourne

Public transport during the 2026-2027 cruise ship season.


We extend a warm welcome to all cruise ship passengers arriving at Station Pier in Port Melbourne.

The first cruise ship will arrive in Port Melbourne on 11 October 2026, with ships to arrive every few days until 20 May 2027.

Public transport is the perfect way to get around the city and take in the sights before you set sail again on the next chapter of your journey.

Public transport tickets

Contactless tap and go  is the easiest way to pay for public transport, use your Mastercard or Visa bank card, smartphone or smartwatch.

You can also purchase a myki card at Station Pier from the Myki ticket booth, Melbourne’s reusable travel card.
Plan your journey and access to public transport information on the go with the free PTV App, available for download on iPhone and Android.

Travelling between Station Pier and Melbourne city

Your ship will arrive at Station Pier in Port Melbourne, four kilometres from Melbourne city.

Metropolitan bus 

Travelling by Bus 109

To travel into the city, board Bus 109 directly from the Station Pier Cruise Terminal to Stop 115 Casino/Queens Bridge Street, Southbank. The journey takes approximately 15 minutes.

From here you can walk via Queensbridge to take in Melbourne’s Yarra River and Southbank Precinct or continue your journey into Melbourne’s city centre.

To travel to Station Pier, board Bus 109 departing from Stop 115 Casino/ Queens Bridge Street.

There will be staff to assist with boarding Bus 109 shuttles at Station Pier in the morning, and at Stop 115 in the afternoon.

The Bus 109 and trams cost a normal public transport fare.

Bus frequency

  • Morning (8am – noon): every five to ten minutes
  • Lunch (Noon – 2pm): every 20 minutes
  • Afternoon (2pm – 5pm): every 10 to 15 minutes

Please note frequencies are subject to change to support shorter or extended visits to Melbourne.

Metropolitan tram 

Traveling by Tram 109

To travel into the city, Route 109 trams run from Port Melbourne (Beacon Cove) to the city via Port Melbourne, Clarendon Street, Spencer Street and Collins Street.

Passengers will need to walk 560 metres from the Cruise Terminal on Station Pier to the tram stop at Beacon Cove. The journey will take roughly 18 minutes.

From Collins Street, you can walk through Melbourne city laneways and shopping precincts or continue your journey across the Yarra River to Melbourne’s Southbank Precinct.

To travel to Station Pier, you can board Tram 109 to Port Melbourne via Collins Street, Spenser Street or Clarendon Street tram stops. Do not board Tram 109 to Box Hill as this is travelling in the opposite direction.

Tram frequency

Weekday trams run every five to six minutes during peak times and every 10 to 12 minutes at all other times.

Weekend trams run every 12 to 20 minutes, with extra trams running on weekend cruise ship visits.

Explore Melbourne via the Metropolitan Train Network or simply wander the newly open Metro Tunnel Stations using you myki card.

We do not provide Bus 109 shuttles for standalone Turnaround Cruise Ship visits due to Terminal operational requirements.

If you live locally and catch Route 109 trams into the city, you may experience busy services when the cruise ships sail into Port Melbourne. Some visitors will catch tram Route 109 into the city to see the sights, take in Melbourne's culture and enjoy everything this city has to offer. Please allow extra time for your journey during these times.
