Sunshine Precinct

The Victorian Government is investing over $20 billion in infrastructure in Melbourne’s west to support a thriving community, promote greater business investment and improve transport connections.

Together with the existing strengths in health, education and manufacturing, Sunshine is set to become the key centre of Melbourne's booming west.

To unlock the full potential of these major transport projects, including the Metro Tunnel, Melbourne Airport Rail, Suburban Rail Loop and Western Rail Plan, the Department of Transport is leading the strategic coordination and planning of the Sunshine Precinct.

Change takes time. That’s why the Victorian Government recently released the Sunshine Precinct Opportunity Statement, giving government, the community and investors confidence in how the Sunshine Precinct will grow and develop over time.

To guide this forecast growth and change, the Department of Transport and partner agencies will develop further plans that outline the strategies for transport, housing, parks and recreation, community facilities, entertainment and employment zones that will help transform Sunshine.

Sunshine Station Masterplan

Map of Sunshine transport precinct

Sunshine Station will become a key connection point between Melbourne's CBD, our regions and our international airport.

To help guide change and investment in the area, the Department of Transport is preparing a masterplan for the area around Sunshine Station.

The masterplan will provide the community, government and investors with confidence about future development opportunities for Sunshine, including how transport, housing, employment, and public space around the station might look into the future.

Community Reference Group

The Department of Transport and partner agencies have formed a Community Reference Group (CRG) to provide a forum for consultation and information-sharing during the development of the Sunshine Precinct.

The group includes community and business members, key local stakeholders, Brimbank Council, local members of parliament, and representatives from Rail Projects Victoria and the Department of Transport.
