Find out about the maintenance work being done in the Hume region as part of the Victorian road maintenance program for 2024-25.

June 2025 update

Some of the most important roads for connecting communities in our regions have been included in the 2024-25 road maintenance program.

Maintenance is vital for keeping the Victorian road network running smoothly and ensuring road users can travel safely and efficiently.

Our maintenance program focuses on strengthening roads across the network, with recent efforts directed toward roads impacted by floods and extreme rainfall.

As we move into this year’s maintenance season, the focus will shift to resurfacing and rebuilding roads across the network. This will involve replacing multiple layers of road surfaces to enhance durability and safety for all road users.

Maintenance program 2024-25

Rehabilitation works on the following roads in the Hume region will be undertaken between now and mid-2025:

Barooga Road, between Dillon Street and Gemmell Street, Cobram (200m), Moira Shire.
Murray Valley Highway, between Jacks Road and Federation Way, Rutherglen (1.36km), Indigo Shire.
Great Alpine Road, at Horse Hair Plain Airport entrance, Cobungra (1.39km), Alpine Shire.
Echuca-Mooroopna Road, between Treacy Street and Craigmuir Drive, Mooroopna (1.4km), Greater Shepparton.
Midland Highway at Swanpool Road, Swanpool (300m), Benalla Rural City.
Goulburn Valley Highway, near Aerodrome Road, Mangalore West (1.8km), Strathbogie Shire.

Resurfacing work will also be carried out on many roads across the Hume region as part of the 2024-25 Victorian road maintenance program.

Works underway

Benalla-Winton Road (Bridge Street), Benalla

We’re delivering maintenance works on the Benalla-Winton Road (Bridge Street) Benalla between Nunn Street (Midland Highway) and Smyth Street.

Resurfacing works will be undertaken from 24 June to 27 June 2025, weather permitting.

Lane closures, reduced speeds and detours will be in place during the works.

Works will take place between 9am and 5pm.

Access to some side roads will be closed at times. Please follow the detour signs on site and observe changed traffic conditions.

There will be parking restrictions along Bridge Street during works. Footpath access will be maintained throughout the works on both sides.

There will be a possible delay of up to 5 minutes during the works. Please plan ahead and allow extra time.

The road will be fully open to traffic at night.

We’ll work towards minimising noise as much as possible.

For the safety of road users and workers on site, reversing beepers are required on all machinery.

We will return on 30 June 2025 to complete linemarking.

Murray Valley Highway, Rutherglen

Rehabilitation works on the Murray Valley Highway, Rutherglen between Jacks Road and Federation Way are expected to start late April 2025 and finish in June 2025, weather permitting.

Works involve a section of the highway between Jacks Road and Federation Way to provide a stronger, safer and smoother surface.

Crews will be on site between 7am and 6pm weekdays, with the possibility of weekend works as required.

During the works there will be lane closures and reduced speeds in place. Delays up to 5-10 minutes should be expected.

Please plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
