Gippsland region
Find out about the maintenance work being done in the Gippsland region as part of the Victorian road maintenance program for 2024-25.
Some of the most important roads connecting communities in the Gippsland region are included in the 2024-25 road maintenance program.
Road maintenance is essential to keeping Victoria’s road network safe, efficient, and durable. We regularly inspect roads and carry out emergency repairs as needed, while more extensive works, such as road rebuilding and rehabilitation, are delivered during the warmer, drier months from September to May to ensure repairs are long-lasting.
This year’s maintenance program focuses on strengthening roads across the network, including those impacted by floods and heavy rainfall.
As the season progresses, resurfacing and rebuilding works will involve replacing multiple layers of road surfaces to improve safety and durability.
There are three main types of maintenance:
- Routine maintenance: Year-round unplanned minor works, such as fixing potholes, clearing drains, and repairing damaged signs, to prevent small defects from becoming bigger problems.
- Periodic maintenance: Cost-effective preservation works like resurfacing roads and protecting bridge structures from corrosion.
- Rehabilitation: Extensive rebuilding of structural layers to restore roads to optimal condition.
By combining these efforts, we ensure our roads remain reliable for all users throughout the year.
