Barwon South West region
Find out about the maintenance work being done in the Barwon South West region as part of the Victorian road maintenance program for 2024-25.
Some of the most important roads for connecting communities in the Barwon South West region have been included in the 2024-25 road maintenance program.
Maintenance is vital for keeping the Victorian road network running smoothly and ensuring road users can travel safely and efficiently.
Our maintenance program focuses on strengthening roads across the network, with recent efforts directed toward roads impacted by floods and extreme rainfall.
As we move into this year’s maintenance season, the focus will shift to resurfacing and rebuilding roads across the network. This will involve replacing multiple layers of road surfaces to enhance durability and safety for all road users.
Current works
Carlisle-Colac Road temporary bridge installation
Inspections have shown that the culvert on Carlisle-Colac Road, over Boggy Creek, has deteriorated and temporary traffic changes, including a lane closure and speed reduction have been in place.
To ensure Carlisle-Colac Road remains safe, open and accessible for vehicles, and reduce the impact on local communities we are installing a temporary bridge structure over the damaged culvert.
Temporary bridge installation and road closure
Works to install the temporary bridge structure will start on Monday 16 June and take approximately five days to complete, with the possibility of some weekend work.
There will be significant changes in traffic conditions while installation works are underway.
To allow for the safe and efficient installation of the temporary bridge, Carlisle-Colac Road will be closed at Boggy Creek from Monday 16 June to Sunday 22 June.
Detours will be in place and drivers are encouraged to plan their journeys to reduce increased travel times. Drivers will be redirected via signage to use either Colac-Lavers Hill Road or the combined Lavers Hill-Cobden Road and New Irrewillipe Road route.

During works, there will be single lane closures of the Princes Highway with reduced speed limits to ensure the safety of crews and road users.
While the Princes Highway will remain open, with single lane closures, throughout construction, there will be side road closures on Old Timboon Road and Bowen Street, with detours in place for the duration of the project.
- Old Timboon Road will be closed between Manifold Street (Princes Highway) and Boywer Street, with a signed detour via Old Geelong Road in place.
