Grubb Road and Shell Road intersection pedestrian safety upgrade
We are delivering pedestrian safety upgrades to the Grubb Road, Shell Road, Thacker Street and Tuckfield Street intersection in Ocean Grove.
Underway
This project is part of the Victorian Government’s Safe System Pedestrian Infrastructure Program, in partnership with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC).
Update - April 2025
Works to upgrade the bridges are expected to begin in late April and take approximately eight weeks to complete.
Upgrades include:
- Construction of raised pedestrian crossings (wombat crossings) near the roundabout on:
- Thacker Street
- Tuckfield Street
- Shell Road
- Construction of footpaths to improve pedestrian connectivity
- Improved lighting.
Disruptions
There will be changes in traffic conditions at the intersection while these works are underway.
Works will be undertaken from Monday to Friday, with the possibility of weekend works.
Throughout construction, traffic management including lane closures and reduced speed limits will be in place to keep drivers and workers safe.
This project will include nightworks that will require temporary road closures and detours. Details will be confirmed when the construction program is finalised and published on this website.
Please note: dates and timeframes of these works are dependent on a range of factors, including favourable weather and site conditions.
Access
Every effort will be made to minimise impacts to residents, businesses and the wider community during the project.
While access to properties will be retained, there will be periods of disruption to local roads and traffic flow.
The contractor will contact impacted residents and businesses directly should access be disrupted.
Background
Grubb Road is a key entry/exit route for Ocean Grove locals, providing an important connection with Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula for residents, businesses, workers and visitors to the region.
Residential and commercial development on and around Grubb Road is changing the physical landscape of the area and having a significant impact on traffic volumes and congestion.
The busy intersection at Grubb Road, Shell Road, Thacker Street and Tuckfield Street connects schools, residences, sporting/recreation facilities, restaurants, and emergency services facilities.
Benefits
- reduce the risk of high-severity pedestrian crashes
- improve pedestrian connectivity
