Major works this autumn

As part of Victoria’s Big Build, work on the West Gate Tunnel Project is progressing to widen the West Gate Freeway from 8 to 12 lanes  and complete the tunnel exit. We’re continuing to remove dangerous and congested level crossings, while upgrade works are underway across the north and south east as part of Big Build Roads. 

Tunnelling is now underway on North East Link, as well as upgrade works on the M80 Ring Road and Eastern Freeway. We’re also preparing for tunnelling on Suburban Rail Loop East, while Yarra Trams track renewal will take place on various routes across the tram network.

These works will cause delays on key roads and surrounding areas. Be sure to plan ahead, allow extra time or take an alternative route if possible.

Disruption: Reduced to one lane in each direction, sharing the citybound lanes, between Geelong Road and Tiernan Street.

Geelong Road, Footscray New Footscray Hospital

Disruption: One citybound lane closed between Ballarat Road and Federal Street.

When:  March until mid-March

Ferris Road, Melton MRPA-Ferris Road

Disruption: Ferris Road closed from Hollingsworth Drive to Abey Road.

M80 Ring Road M80 Capacity Improvement

Disruption: M80 Ring Road closed Greensborough bound between Boundary Road and the Western Freeway.

When: 10pm 1 March 2025 to 5am 3 March 2025

Exford Road, Melton south NWPA – Exford/Coburns 

Disruption: Exford Road, Melton South closed each night between Brooklyn Road and Staughton Street, open northbound during the day.

When: 8pm Sunday 2 March 2025 to 5am Wednesday 5 March 2025

M80 Ring Road, M80 Capacity Improvement

Disruption: M80 Ring Road closed Altona-bound from Western Freeway to Boundary Road.

Disruption: M80 Ring Road closed in both directions between Boundary Road and the Western Freeway.

Disruption: Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road closed between Welcome Road and Pepper Close.

Craigieburn Road East, Epping Road Upgrade

Disruption: Weekend closure of Craigieburn Road East at Epping Road and Lehmanns Road at Epping Road, with traffic holds at the Epping Road and Craigieburn Road intersection at times.

Epping Road , Epping Road Upgrade

Disruption: Traffic holds and overnight road closures on Epping Road between Craigieburn Road East and Memorial Avenue, at times .

Disruption: High Street closed between Memorial Avenue and Findon Road.

Greensborough Road, Greensborough M80 Ring Road Completions

Disruption: Greensborough Road closed in both directions between Grimshaw Street and Nepean Street, at times.

Disruption: M80 Ring Road closed overnight in one or both directions between Plenty Road and Greensborough Bypass, overnight at times.

Disruption: Greensborough Bypass closed in one or both directions between Grimshaw Street and Civic Drive, at times.

Bulleen Road, North-East Link

Disruption: Bulleen Road weekend closure between Trinity Grammar and Koonung Creek.

Burwood Highway, Burwood Suburban Rail Loop

Disruption: Two lanes closed Knox-bound between Elgar Road and Holland Avenue. 

Closed overnight for up to two nights in both directions (not concurrently) for barrier set-up and pack down.

Two lanes closed Toorak-bound between McIntyre St and McComas Gve continues until mid 2025.

Clayton Road, Clayton Suburban Rail Loop East

Disruption: Lane closed Mount Waverley-bound between Carinish Road and Colonel Street. Road closed overnight at times.

Disruption: Closed overnight in both directions between Haughton Rd and Colonel St, for up to 5 weeks.

Disruption: Princes Freeway closed one direction at a time (citybound and Warragul-bound) at Clyde Road, at times.

Bald Hill Road/Racecourse Road, Pakenham Roads Upgrade

Disruption: Full closure of Bald Hill Road and Racecourse Road roundabout (all legs closed) from Friday night to Saturday night.

When: closed from 4am, Sunday 30 March to 12.01am Monday 31 March

Ferntree Gully Road and Howleys Road intersection, Notting Hill
Suburban Rail Loop East

Disruption: Sections of the intersection closed overnight. Ferntree Gully Road closed overnight Oakleigh-bound, with lanes closed during the day.

Princes Freeway, Clyde Road Upgrade

Disruption: Clyde Road entry ramp to the Princes Freeway Warragul-bound closed.
