Upgrades to fix suburban roads
The Victorian Government has announced a record investment in Melbourne’s suburban road network to combat pain associated with the state’s ever-growing population.
The $4billion Suburban Roads Upgrade package will fix roads, improve safety and future-proof the road network.
The Victorian Budget 2018/19 includes $2.2 billion to improve roads across the northern and south-eastern suburbs in addition to the $1.8 billion Western Roads Upgrade package.
In the south-east, there will be major upgrades to Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road in Cranbourne, Lathams Road in Carrum Downs and Pound Road West in Dandenong South.
Widening and safety improvements will occur safety across the northern suburbs, including Sunbury, Craigieburn, Epping and Childs roads.
It will deliver a combination of road widening, duplications and intersections at eight major arterials and a 20-year program to maintain 260km of roads between Footscray and Melton.
Planning and investigations on the projects will begin soon with construction estimated to take a further two years.
