Box Hill Transit Interchange

The Box Hill Transit Interchange is a major public transport hub, incorporating the bus interchange, train station and terminus for the route 109 tram.

Box Hill has experienced substantial commercial and residential growth in recent years and with this growth expected to continue, the Victorian Government has committed to explore the options available to improve the interchange, which is part of Box Hill Central shopping centre.

Box Hill Transit Interchange Steering Committee

The Victorian Government has established the Box Hill Transit Interchange Steering Committee to work towards a business case for the redevelopment of the interchange.

The committee is chaired by Knowles Tivendale, who has more than 20 years’ experience in strategic planning and transport integration projects for public sector organisations and government departments.

The committee will build on the work of the Ministerial Advisory Group, which provided options to the Minister for Public Transport to improve the interchange. It will meet monthly and is expected to provide a business case and recommendations to government by mid-2019.

A range of upgrades have been made to the interchange in the past few years, including the addition of the Route 201 bus service – a direct link for students and locals between Box Hill Station and Deakin University.

Other upgrades include improving passenger safety in the bus interchange by adding pedestrian crossings and repainting bays, installing better ramps and additional signage to increase accessibility, fixing the roof and downpipes and expanding the presence of staff and security.

Works were completed to replace old lighting with LED lamps, improving safety and visibility for passengers, in late 2017.
