William Street tram works start
Trams and traffic will be disrupted as infrastructure upgrades take place on William Street this week.
Road, bike lane and on street parking closures will be in place on William Street between A’Beckett and Little Lonsdale streets, and La Trobe Street between Park and Wills streets from 9pm on Tuesday, 17 to last tram service on Thursday, 19 August.
The intersection of William and La Trobe streets will be closed from 10pm on 17 August until 5am on 20 August. A detour is available via Lonsdale Street or King Street.
Tram service changes
Throughout the works, Route 58 trams will divert via Flemington Road, Victoria Street and Swanston Street between Stop 14 Royal Melbourne Hospital and Stop 22 Toorak Road.
A shuttle service operating as Route 58a will run between Stop 123 Fawkner Park and Stop 2 Market St/ Flinders Lane. Route 30 trams run a shortened service between St Vincent’s Plaza and Stop 6 Melbourne Central Station.
No City Circle trams will run between Stop 6 Melbourne Central Station/Swanston St and Stop D1 Stadium Precinct/ La Trobe St.
Passengers can take trams along Bourke, Collins and Flinders streets to connect with diverting Route 58 services and Route 86 trams between Spring Street and Waterfront City Docklands.
The improvement works are being delivered to allow the Department of Transport and Yarra Trams to introduce new E-Class trams onto Route 58 later this year.
