Road and tram disruptions ahead for South Melbourne

Crews will deliver essential tram track renewal works next week, with Route 1 tram services replaced by buses and some road closures in place across South Melbourne.

The replacement buses will run between the Melbourne Arts Precinct and South Melbourne Beach from first service on Monday, 22 February until last service on Thursday, 25 February.

Buses will pick up and drop off passengers within walking distance of all impacted stops except for Stop 22 at Dorcas Street and Stop 23 at Moray Street.

On the roads, Heather Street and Eastern Road between Park Street and Kings Way in South Melbourne will be closed to traffic from 9pm on Sunday, 21 February until 5am on Friday, 26 February.

The intersection of Eastern Road and Dorcas Street/Bank Street will also be closed during the works.

Motorists are advised to take Kings Way and Park Street as an alternative.

During the works, crews will replace tram tracks, poles and overhead wiring on Heather Street and Eastern Road between Park Street and Kings Way.

Shops, businesses and footpaths surrounding the road works area, will remain open during the works. However, there will be no local or driveway access or street parking available with residents encouraged to park in surrounding streets.

To ensure the safety of all workers and the community, all construction and maintenance work undertaken will operate under a High Risk COVID Safe plan.
