Extra services for Shane Warne State Memorial

Extra trains and trams have been added to the public transport timetable for the Shane Warne State Memorial service to be held on Wednesday, 30 March at the Melbourne Cricket Ground with a huge crowd expected to honour the cricketing great.

Gates will open at 5.30pm with the service commencing at 7pm and expected to run for around two hours.
Public transport is recommended as public parking will not be available at the venue, except for pass holders and those who require accessible parking. Street parking will be limited.
Sixteen additional train services will make it easier to get to the event, along with additional route 70a and 75a trams.

Extra trains will also be added to the V/Line network along with additional train carriages added to a number of services to cater for those travelling from regional areas.
Ticket holders can take the train to Jolimont or Richmond stations. Tram routes 75, 48 and 70 provide access to the MCG.
Passengers should note that buses will replace trains on a number of lines for planned works, some starting as the service is due to finish:

  • Buses are replacing trains on the Belgrave and Lilydale lines between Camberwell and Box Hill due to level crossing works.
  • Buses will replace trains on the Mernda line between Clifton Hill and Mernda from 8.10pm to the last service for maintenance works.
  • Buses will replace trains on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines between Caulfield and Pakenham from 8.30pm to last service for Metro Tunnel work.
  • Coaches will replace trains on the Traralgon and Bairnsdale Lines from 8pm to the last service.

We ask passengers to plan their travel and allow extra time.
Brunton Avenue will be closed to traffic before and after the service for the safety of pedestrians walking between Richmond Station and the MCG.
