Melbourne lands Olympics of transport
Melbourne has been selected to host the world’s biggest public transport event, the UITP Global Public Transport Summit in 2021.
The city saw off competition from Hamburg and Moscow to secure its first visit to the Southern Hemisphere in 28 years.
The summit, to be held from 6-9 June 2021, is expected to generate $9.4 million in economic activity for Victoria.
Known as the Olympics of transport, it will connect Melbourne with some of the world's brightest minds in the transport industry.
The event, hosted by Public Transport Victoria, is an opportunity to discover new and innovative ideas in public transport from some of the world's most advanced cities.
The most recent UITP global summit was held in Montreal in 2017, attracting more than 2500 delegates from 84 countries.
