Train design supports Ballarat jobs

Ballarat manufacturer Alstom is set to design Melbourne’s new fleet of X’Trapolis trains, providing a more reliable and comfortable service for passengers.

Upgrades are on the way for X'Trapolis trains.

The deal with the Victorian Government to design trains with higher local content consolidates Alstom’s 65-strong workforce in Victoria.

Five new six-carriage X’Trapolis trains ordered in the 2018/19 Victorian Budget will start production in April 2019.

The Victorian Government has funded 24 X’Trapolis trains - with 17 already in service.

The X’Trapolis 2.0 design project is part of Victoria’s rolling stock strategy to modernise the transport system, deliver better services and create jobs across the state.
