New trains, upgraded track for North East

Work is well advanced in giving North East line passengers new trains to run on upgraded tracks.

The new long-haul trains, which will be like the VLocity trains operating across the regional network, have been designed specifically for the North East and will be ready to take passengers when the $235 million line upgrade is complete.

Bombardier Transportation Australia is designing the bogies for the new standard gauge trains.

Bogies under the train bear the load and contain the axles, suspension and brakes.

Because current VLocity trains are not fitted with standard gauge bogies, this component will take the longest to design, construct and gain safety accreditation for the new North East line trains.
