Making boating better

Boating will become safer, cheaper and easier for all Victorians as part of an unprecedented boost to recreational boating and fishing.

The Victorian Government announced the establishment of Better Boating Victoria, to oversee a series of initiatives including the introduction of free parking and launching at all public Victorian boat ramps, on 25 March.

Every dollar of recreational boating licence and registration revenue will form the Better Boating fund to provide for boating facility upgrades and major maintenance of Victoria’s boating infrastructure.

Better Boating Victoria will oversee the upgrade of boating facilities at Mordialloc, Queenscliff, Point Richards, Hastings, Rhyll and Cowes Jetty.

Casual berths will also be established for public use across Port Phillip Bay.

As part of these initiatives, the management of boating facilities at Port Phillip and Western Port will be reviewed.

Consultation with key industry stakeholders in the fishing and boating industry will commence shortly to further refine the scope of the Better Boating initiatives.

These changes build on the Target One Million plan to grow participation to one million anglers by 2020 by making it easier and more affordable for Victorian families to get out on the water.
