Professional driving tasks

In certain cases, you can use a device if you drive for work.

If you drive for work, you can interact with a device to:

  • accept or reject a job (e.g. rideshare, taxi or delivery drivers)
  • gather information (e.g. freight, delivery or bus drivers who need information on upcoming journeys, pick-ups or drop-offs)
  • maintain security (e.g. monitoring passengers or livestock in a vehicle)
  • maintain safety
  • facilitate passenger movement (e.g. operating the doors of a bus).

These professional driving tasks will be permitted under the distraction road rules, provided you don’t scroll or enter information, text, numbers or symbols on the device.

If you need to scroll or enter information on the device, you need to pull over and park first.
