Heavy vehicle fees

Find out about the costs for heavy vehicle fees (including primary producer).

These fees support heavy vehicle road infrastructure and operation of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.

These fees are for 2024-25 and don't include the TAC component.

Changing your heavy vehicle description

Complete the description of vehicle/nomination form for vehicles over 4.5 tonnes if you wish to advise VicRoads of a change in your vehicle's description or to nominate a different use for your vehicle. 
 

Axle spacing

For the calculation of the number of axles on heavy vehicles, the following rules apply:

  • 2 axles not more than 1 metre apart from the wheel centres are regarded as 1 axle
  • 3 axles not more than 2 metres apart from the wheel centres are regarded as 2 axles
  • 4 axles not more than 3.2 metres apart from the wheel centres are regarded as 3 axles.
