Community Road Safety Grants Program

Our Community Road Safety Grants Program provides up to $1.5 million in funding to empower local communities to prevent serious injuries and reduce the number of lives lost on Victoria’s roads.


Making change at a community level

We know localised community action is pivotal in reducing the number of lives lost and serious injuries on our roads.

The community road safety grants program aims to prevent and reduce these harms by providing funding for community road safety education programs that influence road users to become aware, understand and make safe decisions.

What funding is available?

We have several programs available as part of this grant program. Each program has allocated funding amounts, read our community road safety grants program guidelines 2024-2025 for more details.

  • Motorised mobility devices
  • Safer routes to school
  • Walk with care
Safer drivers and passengers
  • Fatigue presentation
  • Looking after our mates
  • Road safety for new arrivals
  • Safe driver
Safer cyclists
  • Adult bike ed - learn to ride program
  • Adult bike ed - information session for new or returning riders
  • Bike ed challenge
  • Bike ed maintenance and equipment
Roadside signage
  • Speed advisory messages (SAMs)/variable message signs (VMS)
Local road safety innovation
  • Safer cyclists innovation
  • Safer drivers and passengers innovation
  • Safer motorcyclists innovation
  • Safer pedestrians innovation
  • Safer vehicles innovation

Who can apply?

To be funded under our community road safety grant program, you must represent an organisation that is:

  • Incorporated under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) or the Associations Incorporations Reform Act 2012 (Vic) and have a current Australian Business Number (ABN) (or have proof you have applied for one) that is not for a commercial entity or individuals; or
  • A local government authority; or
  • Schools

If your organisation does not meet the above criteria, you must nominate an eligible auspice organisation to apply for a grant. Auspice organisations must meet the above criteria; and can include local councils.

2024/2025 grants funding outcomes

The community road safety grants program will distribute $1.3 million across the state to implement targeted local road safety programs in 2024/2025.
