Winchelsea-Deans Marsh Road stabilisation and rehabilitation works

Update – June 2023

Thank you for your patience while we’ve been completing these important safety works.

While traffic has been down to one lane on Winchelsea-Deans Marsh Road, we’ve been able to:

• install 81 bored piles in the ground to prevent future landslips at this site
• replace the culverts to improve drainage in the area
• refill the road and side batter.

We will need to close both lanes of Winchelsea-Deans Marsh Road between Brickmakers Road and Bambra School Road for five days from Monday 19 June to Friday 23 June to undertake pavement works as efficiently and safely as possible.

Local traffic may detour via Brickmakers Road and Bambra School Road.

Heavy vehicles are advised to detour via Birregurra-Deans Marsh Road and Cape Otway Road to ensure the safety of their vehicles and other road users.

Please keep an eye out for signs and follow the detour route.

What we’re doing 

From March 2023, works will include:

• culvert replacements
• road rehabilitation works
• geotechnical engineering works including the installation of bored piles and erosion control matting
• installation of new guardrail and signage
• line marking

When we’ll be working

Works began in March 2023 and are expected to be completed in December 2023, weather permitting.

One lane will remain closed until later in the year, when the weather is more suitable for road building. Traffic management will remain in place for most of 2023.

What to expect

During works, reduced speeds and temporary lane closures will be in place to ensure the safety of road users and our crews.

Look out for signs and temporary traffic lights alerting to changed traffic conditions for the safety of road users and the community.

Please allow extra travel time as delays of up to ten minutes are expected until works are complete.

From Monday 19 June to Friday 23 June, Winchelsea-Deans Marsh Road will be closed between Brickmakers Road and Bambra School Road for five days. Local residents should use Brickmakers Road and Bambra School Road instead.

Please drive to changed traffic conditions for the safety of work crews, road users and the community.
