Project status:

Planned

Update - July 2024

Public transport

Temporary changes remain in place for the Ballarat Station to Delacombe bus route (route 25).

The inbound 25 service will leave Delacombe Town Centre, continue east along Webb Road, turn left into Neway Avenue and then left onto Glenelg Highway.

Please note that stop 48307 (Bupa) outbound and 35560 (Glenelg Highway) inbound are still under construction.

Bus route 27 currently connects with route 25 at the Delacombe Town Centre bus stop.

Heading north, route 27C will travel via Cherry Flat Road, turn left onto Glenelg Highway then left again into DTC. It will then exit via Webb Road, turn right onto Cherry Flat Road and head south to Smythesdale.

Background

This intersection meets with Smythes Road and Cherry Flat Road making it a critical connection point to Sebastopol, Lucas and Delacombe.

Recent developments in the area, including the Delacombe Town Centre, have resulted in a significant increase in traffic using the current roundabout.

More than 15,000 vehicles use this intersection each day, including around 700 vehicles each per hour during peak periods. This is expected to increase by 50 per cent by 2041.

This upgrade provides a safer crossing point for pedestrians and cyclists accessing the Delacombe Town Centre and other nearby shops and facilities in the area.

About the upgrades

The upgrade includes:

  • replacing the roundabout with traffic lights and installing dedicated turning lanes
  • additional access point from service road north of the intersection to Wiltshire Lane
  • ‘Keep Clear’ marking along Wiltshire Lane to assist vehicles entering/exiting Edgewood Court
  • Dedicated right-hand turn lane from Wiltshire Lane into Edgewood Court/service road
  • adding bicycle boxes at the traffic signals
  • new lightning and landscaping
  • a concrete central median to improve safety.

Glenelg Highway/Innsbruck Road intersection upgrade

Developer-funded works to install a roundabout linking the Glenelg Highway with Innsbruck Road started in 2022.

This work is separate to the nearby Keeping Ballarat Moving Glenelg Highway/Wiltshire Lane upgrade to the east.

Minor delays are expected during this work and the developer will keep adjacent residents notified of any specifics over the course of the project.
