What we've done
To improve night time visibility and provide a safer environment at the intersection for all road users we:
- Installed longer traffic light mast arms to increase visibility for drivers travelling on north and southbound lanes
- Installed a U-turn signal so road users will no longer have to look for gaps in traffic to U-turn at the intersection
- Upgraded traffic lights and public lighting to improve visibility at the intersection
- Installed footpath tactiles to make the pedestrian crossings at the intersection safer and accessible for all pedestrians
- Refreshed line marking on Lynch Road to improve visibility of road lanes at night.
Project background
The Australian Government is investing at least $110 million each year to the Black Spot Program, nationally.
The Black Spot Program makes an important contribution in reducing the national road toll under the National Road Safety Strategy.
The upgrades at Sydney Road and Lynch Road intersection will improve night time visibility and provide a safer environment at the intersection for all road users.
Road crashes are a major cost to Australians every year. Black Spot projects target those road locations where crashes are occurring or are at risk of occurring. By funding measures such as traffic signals and roundabouts at dangerous locations, the program reduces the risk of crashes. Programs of this sort are very effective, saving the community the cost of relatively minor road improvements that are implemented.
