Strathfieldsaye Road (Bendigo-Redesdale Road) Development Project

We have explored ways to improve traffic flow, safety and active transport on Strathfieldsaye Road from Strathdale to Axe Creek.

Update – May 2023

The focus of the project was to investigate ways to improve traffic flow and increase safety and identify opportunities that could occur in the short, medium and long term.

While the project has now concluded, scoping and design of potential improvements will be considered in future planning.

Condon Street and Kairn Road intersection upgrade 

A related upcoming project for the Bendigo-Redesdale Road (Strathfieldsaye Road) is the upgrade of the intersection of Condon Street and Kairn Road.

This project will improve traffic flow and safety for all road users in the vicinity of Victory Christian College.

Details

Strathfieldsaye Road is a key connector between Bendigo, Strathfieldsaye and Lake Eppalock. The road carries approximately 15,000 vehicles per day, is a secondary freight route into Bendigo and is popular for active transport users.

The Victorian Government provided $3.5 million to investigate options to increase capacity and safety for all road users.

Benefits

Improvements to this road would:

  • increase capacity 
  • increase safety
  • provide active transport options for walking and cycling
  • improve freight efficiency
  • cater for future population growth.
