South Gippsland Highway, Lynbrook Boulevard to Manks Road

The Victorian Government is improving safety on South Gippsland Highway, between Lynbrook Boulevard in Lynbrook and Manks Road in Clyde, in partnership with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC).

Project status:

Underway

Project update - June 2024

In 2023, we installed safety barriers on sections of South Gippsland Highway from Lynbrook to Clyde, to prevent head-on and run-off-road crashes.

Crews also installed electronic speed limit signs near the intersection of South Gippsland Highway and Devon Road.

Crews will be back on site in early-July until late-September 2024 to install the remaining safety barriers on South Gippsland Highway.

What to expect during works

  • Crews will work on site at 9am to 3.30pm on Monday to Friday and some Saturdays.
  • Lane closures on sections of South Gippsland Highway between Lynbrook Boulevard and Manks Road.
  • A minimum of one lane in each direction will be open at all times.
  • Minor tree and shrub trimming in the works area.
  • Reduced speeds in the work area to keep crews and road users safe.
  • Periods of high noise levels, vibrations, and dust – we’ll work to minimise these impacts as much as possible.
  • Travel delays up to five minutes.

Background

We’re improving safety along South Gippsland Highway, between Lynbrook Boulevard and Manks Road, to prevent head-on and run-off-road crashes.

The section of South Gippsland Highway between Lynbrook Boulevard and Manks Road is a high-volume, high-speed road in Victoria’s metropolitan south east and connects the growing suburban regions of Cranbourne and Clyde to Melbourne.

In the five years up to December 2016, 41 crashes occurred on South Gippsland Highway between Lynbrook Boulevard and Manks Road and 18 crashes caused serious injury. Tragically, one person lost their life.

Safety barriers will not be installed on a section of the South Gippsland Highway between Clarendon Street and Cameron Street in Cranbourne due to the 60km/h speed limit and the trees along the Avenue of Honour.

These safety upgrades build on the investment made to improve safety on South Gippsland Highway between Cranbourne East and Lang Lang as part of the Victorian Government’s partnership with TAC, to reduce road trauma and save lives.
