Raleigh Road Bridge maintenance, Maribyrnong

We’re undertaking investigative works on the Raleigh Road Bridge over the Maribyrnong River in Maribyrnong.

Project status:

Underway

What we're doing

We’re carrying out investigations that will determine how future maintenance works will be undertaken on the Raleigh Road Bridge.

What to expect

Investigative works will take place between late 2023 and mid-2024, weather permitting. Our crews will be working under the bridge, above and below the water, between 7am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

The bridge will remain open at all times, however there may be some periods of minor disruption for motorists, pedestrians and bike riders when we're inspecting the bridge deck. Bridge deck inspections will only take place outside of peak traffic periods.

When crews are inspecting the underside of the bridge deck, pedestrians and bike riders using the Maribyrnong River Trail may be required to detour via the pedestrian crossing over Raleigh Road, Clyde Street and Anglers Way.

Impacts for Maribyrnong River users

During works, a boat will be working progressively on the Maribyrnong River to inspect the bridge.

This boat will be in operation underneath and near the bridge and will not impact the operations of nearby businesses or sporting clubs that use the Maribyrnong River.

Project background

This work is being completed as part of the Victorian Government’s flood recovery package.

The Raleigh Road Bridge was inspected by the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) engineers after the flooding event in October 2022. The Raleigh Road Bridge was found to be structurally sound, however engineers identified some minor damage and riverbed erosion under the bridge that requires further investigation.

The investigations will determine what maintenance work is required. Any maintenance works that need to be undertaken will commence from mid-2024.

We will be back in touch with community when more information about maintenance work is confirmed.
