New safer speed on Camberwell Road and Toorak Road

We’re improving safety for pedestrians along the Camberwell shopping strip and for school kids from Hartwell Primary School.

Project status:

Underway

Project update - June 2023

From Thursday 29 June, we’re introducing a safer 40km/h speed limit between 7am and 8pm on:

  • Camberwell Road between Collins Street and Toorak Road.
  • Toorak Road between Ruskin Road and Yeovil Road.

Through the Pedestrian and Safer Schools program, the Australian and Victorian Governments are investing $17.5 million to help Victorian pedestrians, bike riders and drivers share the roads more safely.

Background

In the 5 years leading up to 30 June 2019, there were 21 reported crashes along this section of Camberwell Road and Toorak Rd; 5 of which resulted in serious injuries.

The safer 40km/h speed limit will improve safety along the shopping strip and for school children, parents and teachers travelling to and from the nearby Hartwell Primary School.

It will also help improve safety for drivers entering or exiting side roads.

As a community, we should never value shaving a couple of minutes off our journey over potentially losing a life or causing a life-changing injury.
