New Footscray Hospital - Ballarat Road closure
A new footbridge will be installed on Ballarat Road to connect Victoria University to the new Footscray Hospital in Footscray.

To ensure the safety of crews and road users, Ballarat Road will be closed near Footscray Hospital while crews carry out bridge installation works.
What to expect during works
- From 9pm on Friday 22 March to 6am on Monday 25 March 2024, Ballarat Road will be closed to all traffic between Tiernan Street and Princes Highway-Geelong Road
- Local traffic, heavy vehicle and pedestrian detours will be in place
- University/Ballarat Road bus stop will be closed and bus routes 406 and 409 will detour via Princes Highway-Geelong Road and Droop StreetTravel delays up to 5 minutes are expected
- Access to Victoria University buildings C & D, UniLodge and Footscray Bowls Club will remain open
- No on-street parking in the work area
- Reduced speed limit near the work area to keep crews and road users safe
- Traffic controllers will be on site to help road users travel around the work area safely.

New Footscray Hospital
Victorian Health Building Authority are delivering a new Footscray Hospital – one of the state’s largest ever health infrastructure investments.
Located on the corner of Geelong and Ballarat Roads, the new Footscray Hospital will support the increasing demand from Melbourne’s booming western suburbs, ensuring families can get the care they need close to home.
Construction of the new Footscray Hospital is now underway, with the hospital expected to open in 2025.
