Mickleham Avenue of Honour tree replacements

We’ve been monitoring and maintaining trees in the road reserve within the Mickleham Avenue of Honour on Mickleham Road.

What we’re doing

Arborist inspections have identified two trees that have significant trunk decay and structural damage and pose a high risk to the safety of road users.

We need to remove and replace these two trees to minimise the safety risk to road users. The two trees identified for replacement do not have any memorial plaques at their bases.

We’ll plant semi-mature trees of the same species in the same locations. These will be supported by stakes and a watering well.

Stakeholder engagement

We’re taking every effort to ensure these necessary works are carried out respectfully and that key stakeholders including Hume Council and local RSL branches are liaised with.

While opportunities to work with community to repurpose removed vegetation is preferred, the significant decay of the two trees means that the timber is of poor quality and not recommended for reuse.
