La Trobe Street and Wiltshire Lane intersection

We’ve installed traffic signals at the La Trobe Street and Wiltshire Lane intersection to improve traffic flow and safety

Project status:

Underway

Update - July 2024

Remaining works

While major construction is complete, some remaining works, including public lighting and site clean-up, will be ongoing with minor disruptions expected.

Lane closures and reduced speed limits may be in place intermittently for short periods as required.

We thank residents and businesses in the area for their patience during this important upgrade.

Background

This intersection links Ballarat-Carngham Road and Learmonth Street and is critical connection point to Sebastopol, Lucas and Delacombe.

The former roundabout was often heavily congested at peak times and did not cater for Ballarat’s population growth.

Approximately 20,000 vehicles use this intersection each day, including around 1200 vehicles per hour during the busiest times.

About the upgrade

The upgrade included:

  • replacing the roundabout with traffic lights and dedicated turning lanes
  • adding bicycle boxes at traffic signals
  • extending the central medians and installing dedicated U-turn areas
  • installing new lighting and landscaping.
