Overview
The Australian and Victorian governments have committed $1.98 million for safety improvements to the Kalimna Path, and the Princes Highway intersections at Lookout Road and Hotel Road in Kalimna.
Lakes Entrance is a major tourist destination on the Gippsland Lakes. The Princes Highway is the main access for road users and pedestrians between Kalimna and Lakes Entrance.
Kalimna Path provides pedestrian access across North Arm bridge between Lakes Entrance and Kalimna.
The path provides direct links to the scenic lookouts situated on the southern side of the Princes Highway, which are popular tourist attractions due to their panoramic views of the Gippsland Lakes and Bass Strait.
Environmental impacts
We understand the complex balance of connecting communities whilst caring for our natural environment.
We’re committed to performing our works in a thoughtful and considered way to reduce impact on the environment.
We share the value the community places on the environment and have worked hard to minimise disturbance to native wildlife and vegetation.
Some vegetation needs to be removed for the improvements to Kalimna Path.
Environmental approvals for these works are being worked through in consultation with Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action and work will be carried out in accordance with a Construction Environmental Management Plan.
