Hyland Highway landslip repair works
We’re carrying out complex landslip rectification works on the Hyland Highway, near Carrajung Lower, to stabilise the road, reopen the closed lane and improve safety.
Underway
Project update – July 2024
Construction works to repair the road will start in early-July 2024 and be completed by November 2024, weather permitting.
Planning for these complex repairs have been in progress since heavy rainfall in November and December 2023 significantly damaged one lane of the Hyland Highway near Carrajung Lower.
The damaged lane has been closed with temporary traffic signals installed to manage flow of traffic and a 40km/h speed limit in place.
Pre-construction and site access works, including geotechnical investigations, design and excavation works, have been taking place on site since February 2024.
The repair works include:
- the construction of a 50-metre long retaining wall to stabilise the road
- installation of ground anchors to increase the load bearing capacity of the retaining wall
- road reconstruction, resurfacing and linemarking, and
- installation of safety barriers.
Traffic impacts
The Highland Highway at Carrajung Lower will remain open and the 40km/h speed limit will remain in place for the duration of the works.
Temporary traffic lights will manage the lane closure to enable works to take place.
Please obey all traffic management in the area and allow additional travel time of up to five minutes.
Thank you for your patience as we deliver this important and complex repair work.
Protecting our environment
Environmental approvals for these works have been obtained and work will be carried out in accordance with a Construction Environmental Management Plan.
Work is limited as much as possible to already disturbed areas and fencing erected to protect vegetation and native fauna habitat.
