Grant Street / Griffith Street / Station Street intersection upgrade
We’re upgrading the intersection of Grant Street, Griffith Street and Station Street in Bacchus Marsh to make your journey safer and smoother.
Planned
Update – December 2022
The Victorian Government is investing $25 million to upgrade the intersection of Grant Street, Griffith Street and Station Street.
The upgrade will replace the existing single lane roundabout with traffic lights to improve capacity and traffic flow for everyone, including the many pedestrians and cyclists crossing the intersection.
The signalised intersection will reduce travel time, improve access to the Bacchus Marsh Station precinct and improve safety for all road users.
More information on the intersection upgrade will be provided as the project progresses.
Overview
Bacchus Marsh is one of the fastest growing peri-urban areas in Victoria, with a growth rate of 2.1 per cent per year, compared with the general peri-urban growth rate in Victoria of 1.8 per cent per year. This rapid growth has brought an increase of residential housing and industry, which, in turn, has seen an increase in the demand placed on the road network.
The existing single lane roundabout at Grant Street/Griffith Street/Station Street is nearing capacity, leading to extensive queuing and traffic delays. This has resulted in congestion and increases the risk and ability of pedestrians and cyclists to comfortably cross the intersection.
The train station carpark to the south has been expanded with 100 new car park spaces as part of Ballarat Line Upgrade, adding to traffic volumes.
The upgrade of Grant Street/Griffith Street/Station Street intersection, incorporating control at the adjacent South Maddingly Road intersection and integration of traffic signals with level crossing, seeks to address this growth.
Details
In 2020, the Victorian Government invested $500,000 to investigate plans to upgrade the intersection, including replacing the existing single lane roundabout with traffic lights to improve capacity and traffic flow for everyone, including the many pedestrians and cyclists crossing the intersection.
The Victorian Government has committed $25 million to deliver the intersection upgrade.
