Gisborne Street - track maintenance road closure
From 10pm Friday 24 February to 5am Friday 3 March, Gisborne Street will be closed between Victoria Parade and Macarthur Street. The intersection of Gisborne Street and Albert Street will also be closed during this time.
Planned
Yarra Trams in partnership with the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) is conducting ongoing maintenance and renewal works across the Melbourne tram network to ensure a safe and reliable tram service for future generations.
Major works
10pm 24 February to 5am 3 March 2023
As part of the high priority maintenance and renewal program, works will be undertaken to replace tram tracks, underground cables and tram powerlines along Gisborne Street in East Melbourne.
Construction will take place 24 hours a day so that Yarra Trams can complete the works quickly. Noise and dust are unavoidable; however, Yarra Trams will work to minimise this as much as possible and complete the noisiest works between 6am and 10pm. There will be extremely high levels of noise for the first week of works while we dig the tracks, asphalt, and concrete.
Gisborne Street will be closed between Victoria Parade and Macarthur Street from 10pm 24 February to 5am 3 March 2023.
The intersection of Gisborne Street and Albert Street will be closed to east-west traffic. The intersection of Gisborne Street and Cathedral Place will also be closed.
Early works
3 February to 23 February
Night works will take place from Friday 3 February to Thursday 23 February to identify underground services, install new poles and site sheds and deliver rails.
During this time, there will be nightly lane and parking closures on Gisborne Street between Victoria Parade and Macarthur Street.
The intersection of Gisborne Street and Macarthur Street will also be closed nightly as required.
Traffic management and signage will direct traffic, please follow signage around works.
Getting around
To support you to move around the area during works, detours and traffic management will be in place.
We recommend that road users allow extra travel time for their journey.
There will be temporary footpath closures around the works with local detours in place. Pedestrians should follow signage around the works to cross safely.
