Eurambeen-Streatham Road and Glenelg Highway roundabout
The Victorian and Australian governments are investing $3 million to improve safety at a high-risk intersection at Streatham.
Planned
Overview
This is a busy intersection for local farmers and freight travelling through the area.
During the five-year period between mid-2014 and mid-2019, this intersection was the site of four crashes, including one death and one serious injury.
Approximately 1500 vehicles travel the Glenelg Highway daily, of which 22 per cent are trucks. Approximately 230 vehicles travel on Eurambeen-Streatham Road, with 47 per cent of those being trucks.
Research shows that roundabouts can reduce fatal and serious injury crashes at intersections by up to 85 per cent.
Details
We’re constructing a new roundabout to improve safety at the Eurambeen-Streatham Road, Glenelg Highway and Woorndoo-Streatham Road intersection.
The new roundabout will slow vehicles to safe speeds and provide safer turning movements for trucks turning north at the intersection.
Further safety improvements at the intersection will include a reduced speed limit from 100km/h to 80km/h approaching the roundabout from Streatham and the installation of street lighting to improve visibility at night.
Benefits
- Reduce the risk of crashes
- Provide safer turning movements
