Dyson Drive and Ballarat-Carngham Road intersection upgrade

We’ve installed a new roundabout at the Dyson Drive and Ballarat-Carngham Road intersection to improve traffic flow and safety in Ballarat’s west.

Project status:

Underway

Update - August 2024

Major works to construct the roundabout are now complete. Please be aware of the new traffic conditions when travelling through the intersection.

Final works

While major construction is complete, remaining works, including site clean-up, will be ongoing with minor disruptions expected.

Crews will return later in the year to place the final layer of asphalt at the site. This work is expected to take two days to complete.

Closures and reduced speed limits may be in place for these works as required.

We thank residents and businesses in the area for their patience during this important upgrade.

Background

Dyson Drive and Ballarat-Carngham Road are key connection points for Lucas and Delacombe residents in Ballarat’s rapidly growing west. Significant development in the area has contributed to an increase in traffic volumes.

Approximately 700 vehicles use this intersection each hour during peak times. This is expected to increase by 60 per cent by 2041. There were seven crashes resulting in injury in this area between 2014 and 2019.

Many vehicles using this intersection turn right in and out of Dyson Drive. The current intersection does not have dedicated right turning lanes, increasing the risk of a rear-end crash which potentially forces cars to overtake turning vehicles on an unsealed section of the road.
