Calder Highway overtaking lanes
Northbound and southbound overtaking lanes are proposed to be constructed on the Calder Highway between Marong and Bridgewater to improve traffic flow and safety in this busy section of highway.
Planned
Overview
We are delivering upgrades to the Calder Freeway/Highway corridor between in Victoria through the Roads of Strategic Importance (ROSI) initiative, jointly funded by the Australian and Victorian governments.
Under the Australian Government $12.4 million commitment to overtaking lanes on the Calder Highway corridor between Melbourne and Mildura, the Australian Government has allocated $8.03 million for construction of northbound and southbound overtaking lanes on the Calder Highway between Bridgewater and Marong. These Australian Government investments to the area are supported by in-kind contributions to the Calder Highway corridor from the Victorian Government.
Details
This project is in the early planning phase and subject to relevant approvals.
Benefits
The Calder Highway between Marong and Bridgewater carries the highest volumes of traffic between Bendigo and Mildura, including a high proportion of heavy vehicles. There are currently limited opportunities to overtake heavy vehicles on this stretch of highway.
The proposed overtaking lanes will improve safety and traffic flow in this busy section of the Calder Highway by providing safe opportunities to overtake heavy and slow-moving vehicles between Marong and Bridgewater.
